ENS is fantastic for quickly resolving names in web3, but it can do so much more thanks to text records. Wouldn't it be great if it was all searchable?
What's My Name Again offers a search engine for ENS.
You can search for basic things such as exact names - e.g. runninyeti.eth
But you can also search for wildcard matches like nick*.eth (there's a few matches...)
Even more so, you can search any of the text records automatically: ENS name by email ENS names with Mirror.xyz links Who wants to be contacted? Anyone putting "coffee" on-chain
(hint: searches not starting with a wildcard, *
, are much faster)
We're looking for a grant to continue this project as a public goods service. We're aiming to continue indexing the basics (.eth
domains), but also to expand this in the CCIP-Read world. Once data starts moving off-chain or cross-chain, it will be even tougher to search and we aim to help.
Furthermore, we're planning to open up this project as a public API in the near future so any developer can implement ENS search directly into their applications. The API already supports more advanced features such as specifying the text field to search by and we'd like to expose that in the UI as well.
